Major Cities of Europe Membership for PTI Members

Major CitiesSpecial Offer for PTI Members: Membership at No Charge

Created in 1982, Major Cities of Europe (MCE) is the only European independent CIO association of local governments.

Our members are early adopters from almost every European country. They are expert decision makers whose goal is to provide innovative and effective services to the administration and its constituents by leveraging leading edge information and communication technologies. They are eager to learn from a European perspective about the actual and challenging experiences of their peers in implementing and governing innovative solutions, technologies and new service delivery models.

Our sponsors are major ICT players specialized in providing services, technologies and solutions to local governments. They regard us as an effective community with whom to partner and learn while sharing with qualified and expert decision makers about their priorities, opportunities and challenges and with whom to promote their value proposition.

Our mission is to provide unique insights into our actual experiences. We are a catalyst for the voluntary exchange of ideas, visions and experiences and we support the continuous progress of our members.

These are some highlights about some of our activities.

Annual Conference: We enhance year after year this key successful event with a wide variety of topics, actual testimonies of live case studies, lessons learnt etc. We discuss and share our experiences by selecting the most interesting topics and speakers. In addition to presentations and debates, from 2009 we will introduce in the conference program also specific workshops dedicated to leading edge topics.

Large Cities Workgroup: CIOs of some large European cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Milano, Paris, Lyon, Hamburg, Vienna, Roma and Birmingham) convene two or three times a year to discuss about one selected specific topic like “Municipal Wireless”, “Local Government Transformation” or “e-administration in practice”. The goal is to enable deep dives and open discussions on focused topics. The outcomes of these workshops are available to all MCE members.

Newsletter: We send quarterly to our members and sponsors a newsletter in which we insert information about local governments in Europe and about our activities, events and experiences

More Local Governments in MCE: We are boosting our community with more and more innovative members. These are large and medium local governments. Among the large ones we already collaborate with Hamburg, Paris, Lyon, Milano, Madrid, Birmingham, Rome, Oslo, Barcelona, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Dublin and Vienna.

MCE Portal: www.majorcities.eu is continuously enhanced with new valuable content. It includes information about MCE members, the handouts of our annual conferences, the knowledge base, the outcomes of the Large Cities workshops, the newsletters and information about events. It is now being enhanced as a Web 2.0 portal to enable continuous collaboration between members. In particular the Knowledge Base includes interesting white papers from ICT providers and from our members.

Sponsors dynamically contribute to our activities by participating in the Annual Conference, by including information about their value proposition in our Newsletter and in our Portal, by running dedicated webcasts for our members etc.

The free membership includes reduced prices for the annual conference (for all participants of the member city), the participation in the members dinner at the conference, the newsletter and access to the members area with an address database of relevant IT people all over Europe and a forum that provides information about the activities of the Organizing Committee.
