How to Use PTI Member Discussions
PTI Staff Contact: Bennett Kobb, 202-626-2443.
PTI hosts member discussions via discussions.pti.org, a Listserv system that manages these mailing lists:
| List Name | Council, Forum or Topic | |
| CIO-COUNCIL | CIO Council | |
| GISFORUM | Geospatial Information Systems Forum | |
| PUBLIC-SAFETY | Public Safety Technology Council | |
| SUSTAINABILITY | Sustainability Council | |
| WEBMANAGEMENT | Web Management & E-Government Forum |
How to Join Discussions
PTI adds members to these lists based on the information provided to us when a jurisdiction joins the Institute. If you are employed by a member jurisdiction and would like to join a list, please contact the PTI staff liason for the council or forum of interest to you (Dale Bowen for CIO and GIS; Ronda Mosley for Public Safety and Sustainability; Bennett Kobb for Web/E-Government).
They will add your name to the lists you want to join. The Listserv will then send you instructions for using the list.
How to Post to the List
If you are a member of a list, you may post a message to the list by addressing your message to [name of list]@discussions.pti.org, using the list name shown in the table above.
You will receive messages as they are posted to the list, as long as your E-mail system does not block messages from discussions.pti.org.
Use care when replying to the list. A "reply all" will post your reply to the list and will copy your reply to the sender of the original message. That is rarely necessary. It is usually better to send your reply only to the list itself.
The Listserv system scans list messages for spam and malware (viruses and spyware) before delivery to you. Of course, your system administrator should also protect your mailbox with anti-malware and anti-spam measures.
How to View Archives
Messages posted to the mailing lists are archived at this link. Although list members do not need a password to post to the list or to receive messages, a password is required to view the archives.
This password is entirely independent of the www.pti.org website password we assign to members. Unlike your pti.org website password, you can create a listserv password yourself. Please also consult How to Use PTI Online Discussion Archives.
List Member Policy
To promote freedom of discussion, it is PTI's longstanding policy that non-vendor, local government jurisdiction members are the only participants permitted on the mailing lists.
