Public Technology Institute’s Solutions Awards competition recognizes outstanding achievements in local government application of technology that enhance community services, improve internal operations and reduce costs.
The competition is open to all PTI member local governments, with no limit to the number of entries. The award provides national recognition of accomplishments that demonstrate collaboration, innovation and dedication to public service.
Population Categories
Awards will be presented in each of four population categories:
A. 1–99,999 B. 100,000–349,999 C. 350,000–749,999 D. Over 750,000
Technology Categories
- Telecommunications and Information Technology (I.T. management, operations and infrastructure)
- Web Services and E-Government
- GIS (Geospatial Information Systems)
- Public Safety and Emergency Management
- Sustainability (energy, environment, public works, transportation)
PTI continues to be interested in spotlighting solutions that involve the development and/or use of mobile applications, as well as how technology solutions are innovatively addressing today’s budget constraints.
The Solutions Award covers all aspects of government technology – from systems to planning to funding to policies to apps to collaboration.
Prestige & Value
- Your team, agency and jurisdiction will receive national recognition, while showcasing your innovations to other local governments.
- Winners will receive a freestanding etched award
- PTI collaborates with national publications in spotlighting and promoting award winners.
- Winners will share their stories in a PTI webinar.
- Abstracts of all entries will appear on the PTI website.
- Copies of individual entries will be available to PTI members on request.
The Process
By entering the competition, you grant permission for PTI to publish and publicize your entry.
Preparing your entry
Ensure that your jurisdiction is a PTI member in good standing.
Write your entry in a simple Microsoft Word or Word-compatible file, single-spaced and using the Arial font only.
Avoid complex layouts and text boxes. Do not flow text around images. Please spell and grammar check your entry before submitting.
Required information
No special entry form or template is needed, but your entry must include the following information:
Your jurisdiction’s Population Category and your chosen Technology Category (both listed above).
Project Title & Abstract
Provide a short title that best describes your entry.
Provide an abstract (summary) of approximately 100 to 250 words, with text only (no graphics). This abstract will be published on the PTI website.
Problem
Describe the need, problem or issue that your technology solution addresses.
Response
Describe the solution or program you implemented.
Results
Describe the results you achieved, including examples of how your solution enhanced services, improved productivity or effectiveness, and accomplished greater efficiencies or cost savings. Include a summary of any performance metrics/analytics you may have produced.
Key Participants
Identify team members and any partners (government agencies, other organizations) that participated in the development or implementation of your solution.
Contact Information
Provide the name, title and contact information of the officials who will serve as a resource for additional information. List one contact person per line; do not use columns to present contacts. Provide E-mail addresses, but please do not hyperlink the contacts.

The deadline for entries is February 24, 2012.
