Mobile Technologies for Responsive Governments
The new report M-Government: Mobile Technologies for Responsive Governments and Connected Societies aims to foster better understanding on how to leverage the economic and social impacts of the implementation of the Internet into mobile devices to sustain public sector innovation and transform public service delivery.
The 150-page report also provides examples of mobile government services in these areas:
- Information and Education (“push” services including weather, tourism, recreation, tax/renewal notifications, emergency alerts)
- Interactive Services (reporting crimes, employment services, information inquiry services)
- Transactional Services (electronic benefits transfer, paying taxes and government fees, buying tickets and paying for parking, booking appointments, electronic signatures); and
- Governance Services (elections and voting, citizen-engagement, mobile government workforce, emergency management and public safety).
PTI provided background research and co-edited the report for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
