IJIS Institute Partners with PTI

Promotes collaboration on technology, information sharing initiatives

Ashburn, VA, Apr. 6, 2010: The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety and homeland security, welcomes Public Technology Institute (PTI) as its newest Alliance Partner.

Public Technology Institute, formed in 1971, is a national, not-for-profit, member-supported organization based in Washington, D.C. As the only technology organization created by and for cities and counties, PTI works with a core network of leading local government officials—the PTI membership—to identify opportunities for technology research, to share solutions and recognize member achievements, and develop best practices that address the technology management, governance and policy issues that impact local government.

Officials from PTI member governments participate in councils and forums that address specific technology areas. Through partnerships with industry, federal agencies, and other governmental organizations, PTI shares the results of its activities and the expertise of its members with the broader audience of the more than 30,000 U.S. cities and counties.

The IJIS Institute relies heavily on partnerships with key practitioner organizations, national associations, other nonprofit organizations and universities in its effort to harness the expertise of industry in working toward improved information sharing between organizations involved in justice, public safety and homeland security.

The members of the Institute’s Alliance Partner program are organizations that share the belief that information sharing is a national priority and the conviction to work together in partnerships to address this national need.

Paul Wormeli, executive director of the IJIS Institute, noted, “Our new relationship with PTI will help us expand on the IJIS Institute’s core belief that public-private partnerships between industry and government will provide the technology initiatives and innovation to make information sharing a reality.”

Alan Shark, the executive director of PTI, said, “Working more closely and formally with the IJIS Institute brings together some of the best resources for exploring and adopting best practices in the critical areas of public safety and homeland security – where so much depends on mastering technology and technology leadership.”
