An Introduction to Web 2.0: How and Why Local Governments are Using These Tools Today (Session I)

PTI and the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) presented this webinar on February 3, 2010.

In 2010 IMLA and PTI offer four web seminars on the policy implications of the use of Web 2.0 and social media tools by city and county governments.

This first session in the series served as a primer on social networking. It covered questions such as:

  • What are Web 2.0 and social networking?
  • Why should local governments care about this technology?
  • How is Web 2.0 applied to governmental operations?
  • How have local governments responded?
  • What legal issues, policies and procedures need to be addressed and why?
  • What do you do when departments or agencies implement Web 2.0 without legal considerations or policy review?
  • Why should you be concerned if your entity is not participating in this technology?

Presenters

Dr. Alan Shark, Executive Director, PTI
Chuck Thompson, Executive Director, IMLA
Dave Molchany, Deputy County Executive, Fairfax County, VA
