On April 22, 2009, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced a partnership between its frequency coordination subsidiary, APCO-AFC, and PTI.

APCO-AFC will provide support to PTI’s local government entity and agency members. Specifically, APCO-AFC will provide frequency coordination, engineering and licensing services, and licensing management to PTI’s Private Land Mobile Radio (CFR47, Part 90) licensees.

What is Frequency Coordination?

Most of the radio systems operated by local governments must be licensed by the Federal Communications Commission.

To evaluate a local government’s application for license, the FCC depends on the recommendations of an authorized frequency coordinator, which applies technical, regulatory and GIS expertise to locate radio frequencies that will meet the jurisdiction’s requirements.

Proper coordination is mandatory. It enables local public safety and municipal services to avoid receiving or causing radio interference, and assures good standing with the FCC as required by law.

PTI Member Benefits

PTI members are eligible for special discounts on these coordination services. Member jurisdictions should identify themselves as PTI members when transacting business with APCO-AFC.

“APCO International is excited about this opportunity to partner with PTI and provide these services to their clients,” APCO International President Chris Fischer said. “We look forward to future partnership opportunities to promote our collective mission of advancing technology in the public sector.”
