Research
PTI members have exclusive access to publications, Council reports and local government documents via member-only materials on this website.
Members are also invited to participate in pilot demonstration projects designed to test new technologies and practices for the public sector.
What does this mean for me?
Login and view member-only material throughout PTI’s website that may be relevant to your research and to your work. This material includes publications, Council meeting reports, lessons learned, best practices and other documents pertaining to technology development and implementation by local government.
If you have a particular query, PTI staff can assist you with research and can solicit help from the PTI Councils through our active E-mail discussion lists.
These lists are open only to member jurisdictions and are an incredibly efficient way to quickly gather information from an audience of local governments practitioners across the country.
Research Pilots Provided by PTI
The mission of PTI is to bring the benefits of technology to local governments. PTI’s pilot demonstrations are sponsored and supported by federal government grants, industry partnerships, and resources and contributions from participating local governments.
Only PTI members can participate in cutting edge R&D. This involvement will help to open your horizons, establish new networks of contacts and contribute your own thinking to the greater public good. You can participate in pilots either as a member of a national oversight committee, or by having your jurisdiction become a pilot site.
Research Pilots Currently Underway
3D Plume Technology: LINC (Local Integration with NARAC and Cities) is a joint initiative between PTI and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The objective of the LINC program is to demonstrate the capability for providing local government agencies with an advanced operational atmospheric plume prediction capability, which can be seamlessly, integrated with appropriate federal agency support for homeland security applications.
NARAC’s (National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center),at LLNL, tools and services will be provided to pilot study cities and counties to map plumes from terrorism threats. Assistance to these local agencies will include training and customized support for exercises, special events and general emergencies.
Thus far, we have piloted this technology in five U.S. cities: New York, Seattle, Fort Worth, Cincinnati and Albuquerque with excellent results. Please contact PTI’s Ronda Mosley at rmosley@pti.org for information on this pilot.
Registered E-Mail: Spam and "phishing" attacks are making it more difficult for recipients to identify legitimate E-mail.
In collaboration with RPost, this pilot will identify applications requiring authentication and the potential utility of this solution for local government. Please contact PTI Executive Director Alan Shark at shark@pti.org for information on this pilot.
Broadband Education: This effort is intended to educate local officials on the many different business and operational models local governments can take advantage of when deploying wireless broadband networks. Please contact PTI’s Dale Bowen at dbowen@pti.org for information on this pilot.
CRM: Recognizing the role that Citizen Relationship Management (CRM) systems can play in transforming local government service delivery, PTI has launched the National CRM Research and Development Program, and will release a publication highlighting successful CRM deployments in PTI member local governments.
Please contact PTI’s Dale Bowen at dbowen@pti.org for information on this pilot.
