Councils and Forums
PTI member officials participate in research Councils and Forums, and share information and experiences, best practices and lessons learned through E-mail discussion lists, meetings and the development of publications.
Councils and Forums cover these areas:
- Chief Information Officers (CIOs)
- Public Safety Technology
- Sustainability
- Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)
- Web Management & E-Government
What does this mean for me?
Participating in a research council or forum saves you time and money. If you are struggling with an issue that you just don’t know how to tackle, consider that other PTI member governments may have faced this same issue. PTI’s Councils and Forums can help.
Whether it is Public Safety, Telecommunications and IT, Web Management, GIS or Sustainability, working through a PTI Council or Forum you will reach officials willing to share with you their experiences as they relate to field-tested solutions.
As a Council member, you can participate in face-to-face meetings that enable you to learn from peers about best practices in areas that affect your everyday work life, about the newest technologies coming out of the federal government, national laboratories and the private sector, and to share with other cities and counties the innovations that your own jurisdiction has developed.
You will also have the opportunity to review program documents from federal agencies and to comment upon these programs as they are developed. PTI’s Councils are involved in pilot-testing technologies, designing, creating, and disseminating guidebooks in a wide variety of subjects, and participating in national and international symposia.
Finally, the Council and Forum E-mail discussion lists are a fast and efficient way to reach out and pose a question to other members when you are pressed for time and trying to address a particular problem or issue.
