Virtual Summit on Apps for Local Government - Part 2

PTI thanks Microsoft, the IBM Institute for Electronic Government and Red Hat for their support of the Virtual Summit on Apps for Local Government.

This webinar looked at the opportunities that apps (for mobile as well as non-mobile devices) can provide to open up new channels of communication and dialog with the public. New York City and Lenexa, KS highlighted the apps and tools they have in place to improve citizen engagement.

Four Day Work Week: Lessons Learned from the State of Utah and the City of Mesa, AZ

PTI and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) presented this webinar June 16, 2010.

Four-day work schedules have become one cost-effective tool that serves employees during these challenging times and helps cities and maintain or improve access to services.

Officials from the State of Utah, the first state to implement a four-day work week, highlighted what they have learned since their program started in 2008. The City of Mesa pilot-tested a four-day work week in 2009 and implemented its program in 2010.

Local Governments and the State of Cloud Computing

PTI hosted this webinar on April 28, 2010.

Forty-five percent of responding local governments are currently using cloud computing (hosted services across the Internet) to maintain applications or provide services, according to a PTI survey. Nineteen percent plan to use cloud computing services within the next 12 months, while 35% have no plans to move to “the cloud.”

CIO as Leader and Change Agent in Tough Times

There can be a silver lining in the dark cloud of the economic climate that technology executives are currently facing. Difficult decisions must be made regarding budgets, staffing and resource allocation.

However, with the difficult times also comes the opportunity for CIOs to develop new strategies for service delivery, to re-examine IT governance models and the role IT plays in the entire enterprise, and to re-tool the IT organization to make it more effective.
