Those closely following what has been called the “Muni-Wireless movement” have reached a near state of hysteria with the recent announcement that Earthlink was initiating a strategic pullback from the dozen or so communities that they had invested in, and had been committed to build out city-wide wireless networks.

PTI Responds to USA Today on Wi-Fi
USA Today has published PTI Executive Director Alan Shark’s op-ed letter in today’s online edition at this link.
Dr. Shark said, "There is much more I would have liked to say highlighting the different applications governments are testing and using via their networks, and the thoughtful planning and strategic thinking that local governments undertake when tackling any technology endeavor.
"We need to point out that Wi-Fi is just a technology and is nothing more then a radio signal. It’s invisible to most – especially for those who need to be educated as to how to best utilize it.
"As the technology organization for cities and counties, PTI takes an active role in championing the hard work of our members for the benefit of the citizens we serve."
