Recognizing Local Governments for Technology Excellence
Public Technology Institute thanks the members who participated in the 2007-2008 Solutions Awards.
This annual competition rewards those local governments that can demonstrate how they apply technology to improve service delivery, reduce operating costs and create new revenue opportunities.

Consortium to Provide CIO Education & Certification Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 12, 2008 – To provide professional development opportunities to technology executives in city and county government, Public Technology Institute, the University of North Carolina School of Government, Center for Public Technology, and the Florida Institute of Government at Florida State University have partnered to launch the Consortium for State and Local Government Technology Leadership Development.
The consortium has created a national certification and professional development program for public service oriented chief information officers and for those interested in becoming a public service CIO. The program is designed with a core curriculum applicable for senior public sector IT leadership across the nation.

Health Care IT Summit 2008 Presentations
Local and state officials and representatives from the health care IT industry, gathered January 30-31, 2008 in Atlanta, GA for the first Health Care IT Summit. PTI presented this event with the National Association of Counties and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.

Local Government CIO Trends and Practices Book
City and county chief information officers are the top technology officials in local government. To help these officials deal with evolving technology, Public Technology Institute (PTI) will publish CIO Leadership for Cities & Counties: Emerging Trends & Practices, the first book written specifically for this specialized audience.
The book will describe the professional skill sets that CIOs need to be successful, and will include tried-and-true management practices that technology executives can learn from and tailor to their specific needs.
