Welcome

Organizing and publishing a book is like giving birth – except there are no premature babies or premature publications for that matter! CIO Leadership for Cities & Counties took over two years to bring to birth and now there is talk of other siblings!

Now that the book is a reality, I must admit I was truly surprised by the outpouring of such positive reactions from around the globe. It appears the book in both substance and timing has hit a critical and collective nerve.

After all, never before has so much responsibility been placed on the shoulders of today’s local government CIO. One would expect appreciation and recognition to go along with the new responsibilities, but it seems that these professionals go unnoticed or at best underappreciated.

Therefore, we at PTI have formed a blog around the book’s publishing. The book covers many critical areas of inquiry and has set off a huge amount of buzz.

It is my hope that we can further our community of interest by sharing what we have learned and cataloging what we still would like to know.

PTI is dedicated towards creating a national CIO Certification Program in conjunction with Rutgers University’s School of Public Affairs and Administration. What more can we do to advance the profession? What would the sequel to CIO Leadership for Cities & Counties look like?

What issues continue to haunt us, and how do we do a better job of building bridges with other senior public managers and elected leaders?

This space is dedicated to a healthy on-going dialog about the profession – so please chime in! Pretty soon you will be seeing a new call for authors for the sequel!

Yours,

Alan
